The Alejandro de la Sota Foundation has arisen with three purposes in mind: the need to preserve the architect's professional archives in the best possible conditions, the obligation to make them available to students, lecturers and architects, and finally, an urge to publicise his work.
| PRESERVATION |
The graphic material in the archives consists of 16,000 documents including plans, sketches, photographs and models. They are accompanied by project summaries, lectures, articles and other texts written by Sota. The archives also contain a carefully selected architecture library and collections of professional journals from the period.
The archives are held in the architect's former studio, the current headquarters of the Alejandro de la Sota Foundation, where an exhibition of furniture designed by Alejandro de la Sota is on display, another good reason for visiting the building. |
| FACILITY |
Alejandro de la Sota's studio has always been open to anyone interested in paying a visit. People came to see the architect, but they almost inevitably spent the afternoon looking at his work. Study sessions for students, including slide shows and other activities, were quite commonplace events in his studio for many years. This natural approach used by Sota has taught us the importance of facilitating access to the Foundation for every type of inquiry. We are striving to ensure a sense of continuity in the space where Alejandro de la Sota worked during his last thirty years. |
| DISSEMINATION |
The work of Alejandro de la Sota is being disseminated by the Foundation with loans of material from his archives for publications and exhibitions. The Foundation also has a travelling exhibition of his complete work, it is publishing a collection of monographs on individual projects designed by Alejandro de la Sota and, most importantly, it is disseminating his digital archives via the Internet. |
